The main objective of a gamified experience is to make players do some actions. In a gamified experience, that actions are nicely called as quests or missions. How to use quest list The Quest List contains all the missions, how to accomplish them and how many points you receive if you accomplish it. Some quests can be optional and other quests can be mandatory in order to get to the next level. You have the freedom to choose how many quest to show in the quest list and how to share it. You can share all the missions for one day, entire week, level, or for the entire game, or even one at a time. Our suggestion is to keep it simple and to ask yourself all the time what is the added value of every mission and how it helps you achieve your objective. Read More

Points, badges and leaderboards

Let’s start with the most common triad, used in most gamified experiences or products: Points, Badges and Leaderboards. Those are very common game elements because they are very effective and easy to apply, but those are just basic gamification elements and we will show you in this section more complex and efficient game mechanics.   Points Points are the simplest way to reward a player for completing an action or a series of actions. This game technique is helpful to motivate people who like to achieve points or to have a sense of progress. They are used to encourage people to take action and to do things in exchange of achievement. They can be used to unlock content and even spend as currency to obtain some goods (virtual or even physical). How to use points Every mission or action that you want to include on your gamified design can be rewarded by a specific number of points. You need to choose carefully the number of points depending on the difficulty of a mission or action. If a player receive more points for a easy mission he will be demotivated. Gamification as an innovative approach for HR processes

Our work environment is changing year by year and we already know a new generation will take over the workforce by 2020: the Millennials. A generation with different approaches regarding their career and different expectations about their workplace. For the new generation, workplace satisfaction matters more than monetary compensation and they need to find meaning in what they do. They are less likely than previous generations to put up with an unpleasant work environment and much more likely to share with their friends how bad is the work environment of your company. As a HR specialist, we can create that happy environment we all want and deserve, without affecting the work performance. In HR, beside the generational shifts we have to face up a lot of challenges: To attract and retain top talents, in a very competitive market where these are just a few and they also have a lot of expectations; To grow our employee and to develop within them the right capabilities to achieve our business goals, with just the right amount of investment and considering employees don’t usually stay on meaningless processes. To help new employees integrate in our culture and become productive as soon as possible; […] Read More

Oct 30, 2016 by Game Master Comments: 0

The Alternative University is a personalised learning program, created with professionals in various fields, to help grow young students, capable of generating a change in society. University’s Camp is one of the most impactful experiences of its program, it’s a seven day intensive camp, full of learning, that kick starts the new academic year, it is known as one of the most powerful and beautiful experiences. Playful Solutions has worked with the Alternative University to gamify 2016’s Camp. We offered a solution that increases the involvement of students in the daytime activities and made this camp more fun. This is how we did it. What was the challenge? The Alternative University has a culture based on freedom. No activity is mandatory. This faced the organisers with a possible difficulty, lack of involvement from some students regarding the agenda. Also, the students get involved in co-creative activities like waking others up, serving breakfast and so on, that tend to be less fun. Finally, the team wished participants to be proactive and organise random fun activities on their own, on top of the agenda they created. What is the goal? Build a fun atmosphere during the camp and encourage players to get […] Read More

Mindset & vision – let’s start from here We want to transform the work environment into the place where people are happy, they play and they develop. Why focusing on work environment ?   Work is a big part of our lives. We are under the illusion that we pay with money but I believe everything we pay for, we pay with time. Would you like some candy ? That’s probably several minutes of work. Need an urgent cab to the other part of the city ? Few hours of work it is. Gift for a friend ? That should be around 1 day of work. New clothes ? Let’s approximate that to one week of work. Summer holiday for a week ? That should be around one month of work… for two ? Let’s make it three. And from here numbers become bigger and bigger… wanna buy a car ? An apartment ? Costs of living for a new family member ? The equation is quite simple, you need or want things, you have to work to be able to get them. Well… in most cases. But for these in particular, life makes work a mandatory activity. And, if […] Read More
